Are you one of the 40-70% of women experiencing debilitating menstrual symptoms?
Many of us were taught that menstruation was an uncontrollable part of being a woman. The only thing we knew was that ovulating meant your body was ready to conceive and your menstrual flow meant that you hadn’t conceived.
There are so many women that are unaware of the Four Menstrual Phases and that honoring them can ease suffering, boost productivity and allow for empowerment rather than shame and embarrassment. Our hormones need balance and if they become unbalanced, our bodies are giving us signals, not so that we suffer, but to indicate that we are out of balance. Sadly, we have been taught that suffering was just part of being a woman.
Moon Phases and Menstrual Phases
We love to help empower women by providing information and holistic tools that make it easier to live a healthy and fulfilling life.
The following is an introduction to the Four Menstrual Phases and crystals and other tools you may wish to implement to ease suffering and support your physical and emotional rhythms.
The female hormones ebb and flow just as the seasons do. The lunar moon has the same amount of days as the average menstrual cycle. The menstrual cycle has four phases, just as the moon has four phases. Just as the seasons have different functions, so do our menstrual cycles. During some phases, we need to be active and during others we need rest. Similarly, there are phases during our lifetime when we are learning, growing, or awakening.
The White Moon Cycle
Menstruating with the New Moon, Ovulating with the Full Moon
If you are menstruating with the New Moon, your body, mind, and spirit, may be drawn inward during the darkest phase of the Moon and outward during the brightest phase of the Moon.
Like the Earth, you are most fertile during the Full Moon and your energy is dedicated to nurturing, whether it be children, relations, or work. You are in a manifesting and creating phase in your life.
The Pink Moon Cycle
Menstruating with the Waxing Moon, Ovulating with the Waning Moon
If you are menstruating with the Waxing Moon your body, mind, and spirit, may be moving towards something bigger and brighter.
Like the Waxing Moon, you are ready to go forth, growing from what you are in, into what you are ready to become.
The Red Moon Cycle
Menstruating with the Full Moon, Ovulating with the New Moon
If you are menstruating during the Full Moon, your body, mind, and spirit, may not be focused on conceiving, but on healing yourself and others, sharing the wisdom you’ve gained, and empowering yourself and others.
Like the Moon, you are building, growing, and releasing your inner wisdom and light.
The Purple Moon Cycle
Menstruating with the Waning Moon, Ovulating with the Waxing Moon
If you are menstruating with the Waning Moon, you are withdrawing and releasing what is no longer needed. As you retreat from what was, you are redefining who you are and where you are headed.
The Four Menstrual Phases
During menstruation, your body sheds its uterine lining for 3-7 days.
Estrogen and progesterone are at their lowest levels.
Your body requires more rest and relaxation due to low hormones and energy.
Honor your body, mind, and spirit by meditating, and doing gentle exercises such as yoga, stretching, and walking. Eat warm, nutrient-dense foods, healthy fats, and high proteins. Try incorporating pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, and dark chocolate into your diet.
During the follicular phase, your body is preparing to release an egg within 7-10 days.
Your estrogen is beginning to rise, as is your testosterone.
Your productivity increases as the estrogen and testosterone levels lead to higher energy levels.
You feel more social and nurturing, and will be more creative and strategic.
Honor your body, mind, and spirit by doing cardio, strength training, or HIIT. Eat raw fresh fruits and vegetables, or lightly steamed and sautéed foods. Try incorporating pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, and dark chocolate into your diet.
During the ovulation phase, your body is ready to release an egg within 3-4 days.
Your body experiences a rise in FSH and luteinizing hormones. Your estrogen levels remain high, but testosterone is decreasing.
Your energy levels drop off again, and you may feel sensitive in the reproductive organs or lower abdomen.
You may be more inclined to communicate and connect.
Honor your body, mind, and spirit by doing cardio, strength training, and HIIT. Eat raw fruits and vegetables, high fiber, and lightly sautéed foods. Try incorporating sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, and dark chocolate into your diet.
During the luteal phase, the lining of your uterus is thickening for up to 12-14 days.
Estrogen and progesterone levels are elevated.
Your energy levels begin to decline, especially 2-3 days before menstruation.
Your interest in socializing may begin to decline and you may enjoy simpler tasks.
Your cortisol levels begin to rise and you may feel more stressed and anxious.
Honor your body, mind, and spirit by doing yoga and pilates. Eat higher carb, roasted, or baked foods. Try incorporating sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, and dark chocolate into your diet.
